This is a fact...for everyone that hates Saban...we can give him credit for one thing...
Dan Radacovich who is the godfather of Toonces, had a meeting with Saban with the new logo on the helmet...DR proudly wanted to use it in a game...and asked Saban's opinion of it...Saban: I think it looks like shite. If you ever put that on my FB helmet....

Why is this terrible logo called Toonces? I prefer the classic old school logos of LSU like Mike the tiger with the LSU bennie and the traditional LSU block letters.

It's too round, busy, and indiscernable. From even a moderate distance it looks like somebody squashed a beetle or something.

I can tell your age.
That first one is from the 70's-90's and is the most badass AND unique LSU logo that ever was.
That said I have seen a rendering of a logo that looks as modern as toonces but somebody made it with the Tiger face looking straight at you and with a much more aggressive face. It was badass but I dont know where to find it.

Interestingly, there wasn't a contest, but a friend of mine from HS designed the Tiger Eye. She was studying Graphic Design and worked in the Athletic Dept. It was the early 80's, Rocky was a big movie franchise, & the guy who did the score for the movies was an LSU alum, Bill Conti. They asked her to come up with a design and she used the song from the movie as inspiration. Next thing you know, it was on the 50 yard line. She never got a penny for it and still doesn't to this day.

Good move financially. Sell all the toonces crap then come out with a good looking logo--everyone cans their toonces crap and buys a whole new wardrobe. Brilliant.

I'm considering petitioning LSU so I can get the old helmet logo on my class ring instead of the toonces head. I hate it and it will make me hate wearing my class ring.
