kim, didnt he admit after the 2010 season that he didn't devote enough time to recruiting or to the team in the offseason coming off the National championship victory? Or am i just dreaming that.

I think what you all do not realize is that the bats are killing us turning hits into runs. We are unable to manufacture runs the way we need to. We cannot bunt people in, we cannot sac fly, we cannot get a timely hit. It doesnt matter that you have the 3rd highest batting average in the SEC when you have one of the highest runner left on base average. Two hits and three strikeouts still equals 0 runs. You all refuse to accept this. The teams that are winning now are recruiting guys that can manufacture runs not knock the shite out of the ball. Case in point South Carolina and Florida. When they get on base they score regardless of the way they have to do it. To have a pitcher with a sub 2 ERA that has a losing record is plain pathetic. If you think that small ball would not have won twice as many games last year you are nuts. It is not small ball that failed it is our hitters that failed at bunting. College baseball players should know how to bunt.

We finished 4th in the SEC in runs scored, which is not awful. Pitching was the main problem IMO.

ETA: I am not defending Sanchez, just pointing out that the hitting/runs scored was not that bad.

The perception is that we couldn't get timely hits last year (i.e., hits with RISP). There were times when all the bats were on fire and then there were other times when we just couldn't seem to buy a hit down a run with runners on 2nd & 3rd. I don't know if that's just perception and not reality but it sure seemed that way.

We hit for a pretty good average each year but my problem is with the number of strikeouts and our approach at the plate.

I do not have the numbers but it just seems that we have struck out alot the last few years.

It seems to me that the guys go up to the plate with the same approach no matter the situation. Sure I want to see guys drive the ball but sometimes you need to shorten your stroke and just put the ball in play. Seems like he go up to the plate looking to kill the ball all the time.

As for a 3rd base coach he has made some bad calls. But most of the time I like to make the other to make a play. If we get thrown out so be it. Aggressive is good in most situations.

With that said I am not a big Javi fan, but it looks like CPM is sticking with his guy.

2009 -- 495 73 games = 6.7 per game

2010 -- 408 63 games = 6.4 per game

2011 -- 335 56 games = 5.9 per game

i'd love to know what LSU's batting average with RISP ranked in comparison to the rest of the SEC last year. I don't care what our overall BA was.

I understand that Paul Maneiri has an aggressive approach to base-running and I am okay with that. However, it doesn't change the fact that Javi is just plain bad at deciding when to send a runner home. It's true that there's a fine line between aggressive base running and poor base running, but Javi is horrible at determining where that line is.

To try and be fair, I will say that Paul Maineiri is in a similar situation when it comes to determining when to pull a pitcher. It's easy to say he should have pulled/not pulled a player after the fact, but he seems to wait too long to pull a pitcher. For the record, I'm a fan of Paul Maineiri.

Yes Lester, he did--after last season. As bbap said, he admitted that he got complacent after the NCS and spent too much time at speaking events, etc instead of recruiting, coaching, etc.

ETA: I don't remember any such admissions after the 2010 season. Not saying it did not happen, I just don't remember it if it did.

I don't care what our batting average runs, how many runs did we score, that's the bottom line. As for the above quote, doesn't that count all of the midweek games? We scored a ton of runs against the Wake Forests, Jackson States, UNOs, etc. Did we rank 4th in the SEC in runs scored during SEC games only? If so, then I apologize for being misguided. But I thought we pitched pretty well last year but couldn't score runs at all when it mattered. I remember a few late inning losses, but I thought we lost a lot of low scoring games in SEC play.

We were 5th in SEC only (missed 4th by 3 runs). Again, not too shabby and certainly not the horrorshow people make it out to be. I thought the same thing until I looked. We scored about a run more per game than USC. Problem was that USC's ERA was almost 2 runs lower. Again, IMO the main problem was pitching, not scoring runs.

Last year's team had it's problem like every team does but in the end they just couldn't make plays when they had to. Blame it on coaching, blame it on players, blame it on the equipment staff, thats all up to interpretation.

I interpret that an ERA of almost 5 is bad.
