Shot a big boar (Posted on 1/5/11 at 10:28 pm)
On Bayou Dorcheat. Heart shot. 30-06 125 gr. Nosler ballistic tip. Broke the opposite shoulder but he took off into the thickest crap he could get to within a hundred yards. I was alone, blood trailing that monster on my hands and knees in that crap in the dark with an LED flashlight and memories of this being how half the stories I've read about people getting jacked up by wounded hogs plays out.
When I finally found him and tried to get some pics I realized I couldn't because the SD card in the camera was formatted for the game cam so I had to go get the right one out of the game cam. When I rode back over there and got it something was squeaking and squeeling all crazy like and since I only have hearing in one ear I couldn't tell where it was coming from. I walk the ten feet back to the four wheeler and start messing around with the camera putting the right SD card in when this noise gets a lot louder and angrier I turn around and flash eyes coming down the tree my game cam is hanging on...
I whip out my little Ruger Mark II pistol and it hits the bottom of the tree and comes right at me like he's fixing to tear me a new meat one. Craziest coon I ever saw. I shot him. He did the polite thing then and took off and I headed back to the hog to take some pics.
I checked the pics from the game camera and what do I find? That coon holding off what may be this hog. lol
I guess I know why I'm not catching any hogs now. Hopefully that little bastard is dead.

He was bigger than me. Has to be 300 lbs. I couldn't budge him and I'm a big dude. I was alone and he was so deep in a thicket I'd have to build a road to get a four wheeler to him and even then I couldn't get him on it if my life depended on it so he's gonna be coyote food. Putting a game cam on him to see what comes to dinner.
Don't eat big boar hogs. Nasty. There's plenty of tasty sows and youngsters left to eat.

I'll just leave the camera on him for awhile until he's reduced to nothing and then put together some kind of time lapse carnivore orgy montage or something.

Thanks. Once I followed the blood in there about 20 yards it was gut check time because I was now doubting my shot and I was definitely doubting how safe I was gonna be in those blackberry vines alone on my knees with a long rifle hanging on everything.
Was a ginormous rush. By the time it was over and I was getting attacked by a coon it almost seemed annoying.

stupidest fricking statement on this board. there is a reason that wild pigs are legal to hunt at night in louisiana, they are a problem that we need to get rid of or at least try to manage. Billfish are at risk of becoming endangered because of fleets of charter boats that would stack up the sails and Marlins in mexico.
