is it ok to use white out and put your name on money order?
sold item on ebay and buyer sent me m.o with wrong name .

i work in a financial institution. We would consider it altered and probably not take it.

Yes...also go ahead and add a few zero's as well...white-out is optional in that case.

Yeah, all that stuff they print on the checks is editable. I don't know why they don't just sign them and let you fill everything out.

Print the name on the face of the money order as the endorsement.
Then write "for deposit only" with your name,account number, and the words "prior endorsement guaranteed".
Deposit into your account.
Do not withdraw this money from your account for a couple of years (maybe less..ask your banker)...after which, you're home free.
Probably need to make copies of all documents related to the transaction. Remember, you're acting in good faith...
