Saw it tonight! I thought it was brilliant!

It's a worthy sequel. And a really good movie.
Some homage but not total homage bullshite like The Force Awakens which was just fandom bullshite.
This is a real movie. But it could have been really really great...with an editor. And the story could have been just as good with another replicant family without reverting to the original just to connect for connection purposes.
When a scene loses tension or purpose or gravitas, move on...this isn't the Cranberries.
But the pacing isn't good - movies can be a slow burn but this pacing is just off - This was less 2001 a Space Odyssey genius in pacing and flow and more getting close to Michael Cimino territory.

Although I did like the film and think it's extremely well done, I'm not sure if it's as good as many are saying. I also had numerous flashbacks to the West World series. There are some 5hemes and scenes that are eerily similar. (yes, I know Blade Runner kind of invented the genre though)
It drags too much in places (especially act 2) also thought the Leto scenes were especially drawn out and borderline boring. I also got the feeling the film was very very self important in places, but I still enjoyed it and thought it was easily the best cast film I've seen in years.
I think many people will go into this not knowing exactly what they are getting themselves into. Not really a date night movie and not for the uneducated/non Sci fi fans. In my theater at least 2 people walked out.
If you are a Blade Runner fan though, you need to see it.

Just saw your post after I made mine... I couldn't agree more.
That statement is so dead on.
Also spot on. We don't need a 10 minute sex scene and a 10 minute furnace scene. Yes both obviously need to be there to flesh out the story, but that also needed to be about 70% shorter.
I also felt the film was a bit too cold. Hard to get emotionally attached to any character. In saying all this though, it was still an excellent feat in filmmaking and something that fans should see.

As I said in another post, this is not going to appeal to everyone. The style of storytelling is very much like the original. Including what some would consider it's flaws. You're either going to love the hell out of it because that's how the original is done, or you're not. I think if you're going to do a new Blade Runner movie though, you have to do like the original or fans would have been pissed.
Personally, I enjoy the unique style.

It's Gosling...idk, he's supposed to be a Replicant...but so was Deckhard?
It's difficult to fall in love with a movie when the protagonist is cardboard cut-out half the time - there will be some Youtube video out there that adds up his camera time and 50% will probably be silently staring at the camera - in an almost 3 hour movie.
And that sex scene was ridiculous.
That dragged on...and frankly too the Ford/Gosling meet and greet to shootout dragged on. He first finds the place and then 30 minutes later after Elvis hologram sings, and very little dialogue they have a drink...and then Ford just leaves...after saying almost nothing. That was a long - lets connect to the original unedited shot. I mean, he gave us a tour of the place without talking.
I actually disliked the Ford cameo...I thought the film was on a path to survive on it's own as a real film - and just went cheap at the end.
Ford says basically nothing in the last 25 minutes of the film...IDK why that is - but he's just agitated Ford in Air Force One. His scene with Leto is the worst scene in the movie.

You know there's a spoiler thread for this, right?

Oops
Multiple threads side by side. Posted in wrong one.
Meh this isn't Crying Game or Memento.
I think everyone who hasn't seen the movie knows that Harrison Ford is in it...and the basic plot...the trailers give away most of the movie.
I don't think pacing is a spoiler or complaining about long sex scenes.

Everything about this movie was top notch, except for the story and some cheesy dialogue ("miracle"). 7/10
