Euthanasia literally takes seconds and they feel nothing aside from preexisting pain. Then they also handle the remains which is good if you want the ashes.

the ex and I knew that our cocker spaniel was on her last legs, we arranged with the vet when we felt it was time to give her a knockout pill so when I brought her in, she wouldn't know...

I'd ask your vet about something kite thak...

TechBullDawg, in that particular situation, you did what you had to do...

Did it before. Old boy needed a ridiculously expensive surgery on the back hip.

Bought him a plain cheese burger at the local burger joint, drove him out to the family land, and did what needed to be done.

Never fun, but I believe in letting them go mercifully and unaware, and I'll be damned if I let a faithful pet go with someone he doesn't know at the business end of a needle.

Yeah. Every single day I tell her she's absolutely worthless and is a waste of my time, money, and affection.

one of my biggest fears is stumbling upon a suffering animal (like on the side of the road) and not knowing what to do... I don't carry (or own) a gun. I guess I'd call the sheriff?

Of all the things to be afraid of in this world, this thought has never crossed my mind.

Maybe fear is the wrong word... but I definitely think about it!

Yep, have to put down horses regularly. I'm not paying a vet for that.

I don't know that they qualify as pets exactly though. My wife is into horse rescue so we regularly take in sick horses and attempt to nurse them back to health and adopt them out.

Well, allegedly we are going to adopt them out, that rarely happens though.Usually someone in the family just really really wants to keep "just this one horse"

Had a cat that was on her last legs, pretty sure it was cancer. Came home late one night with something on my mind and hit her while she was asleep in driveway. She was already 16 so wouldn't have made it much longer and probably wouldn't survive the surgery. That one sucked.
