If this witness is telling the truth... WTF??? Did the guy think he was gonna jump it, Dukes of Hazzard style?

After the exchange of words, Richard said, the Jeep driver drove around the bridge worker's truck that had been blocking traffic, then through a gate with flashing lights.
no Darwin?

He must have read that "Why women cheat" article and realized his wife wasn't being a bitch lately.

quote:
The bridge was closed to traffic in both directions, Young said. Traffic was being diverted to bridges on St. Claude and Florida avenues.
I don't understand the point of this. How does this help find a sunken vehicle?

Did they not have the secondary barrier down. There's a wood one first then a metal one typically made of box tubing, I don't see that one down.

that second barrier works... maybe... 20 percent of the time

Can't see the secondary one in this pic.

It doesn't but I guess technically the bridge is now a crime scene? So I guess they want to check for skid marks, whatever?

secondary is not down. Now maybe they raised it to let the investigators get to the end of the bridge?
More likely... it was never down.
When that police officer drive off edge a few years ago, the barrier was broken, and they supposedly fixed it.

i'd like to see a transcript of the conversation between the driver and the bridge worker.

I guess. I don't see how this is some big crime scene worthy of disrupting traffic, though. Seems pretty open and shut.
Oh, now I see.
Cops and other city workers need it closed so they can get a good look at the action.

From the Advocate
I drive that bridge at least twice a day and I have NEVER seen someone at the foot of the bridge blocking traffic unless the bridge is closed or having a mechanical issue which also means it's closed.
I'm very curious if the "heavy bar" was not lowering into place, and that's why the truck was at the bottom of the bridge. to stop people from getting on it and potentially getting too close to the edge.
quote:
An official with the state agency in charge of the bridge said one of its employees was parked in a truck at the bottom of the 60-year-old drawbridge on the Lower 9th Ward side to stop cars from driving onto the span while it was open to allow marine traffic through.

I don't blame him. I'd take my chances with the bridge rather than stopping in the lower 9th.

Something else to mess with marine traffic in Industrial.
