Will be in Memphis for one night on Tuesday. Where should my son and I grab good bbq? I prefer an emphasis on ribs, but I'm open to all suggestions.

Also, location doesn't matter. It doesn't have to be a kitschy place on Beale Street. Just looking for the best memorable meal.

Central and BBQ shop are two that I really like. I've never been to Germantown but have heard good things.

I'd make it a point to try Charlie Vergo's Rendevous as well. If only to see how the ribs hold up to the hype.

rendezvous has good ribs
they are charcoal grilled not smoked but they are very good
big pile of those and the Greek salad

if the Redbirds are home and you like baseball it's a great stadium and its right next door

Central is really good. All the meat I've had there has been good and the wings are bomb.

I heard good things about both BBQ Shop and Germantown Commissary. They both get a lots of love, but I've never been either.

I like rendezvous for the experience and the dry rubbed ribs. Some will say tourist trap.

Make sure to start with a sausage and cheese plate no matter where you go. Sounds so simple, but it's always so good

If you're driving in from NOLA, the Memphis BBQ Company in Horn Lake MS is on the way about 20 minutes before you hit downtown Memphis, and is the best IMO. Then I'd have to go with The BBQ Shop.

Not BBQ but Gus's Chicken is a must. Sides are only average but the chicken is to die for.

Rendezvous - grilled not smoked. Heavy paparika. I never got the thrill.
BBQ Shoppe - prob best all around for sampling Memphis Q.
Cozy Corner - best is the Cornish Game hen. Lawd! And if you want to do BBQ bologna sandwiches, this is the place. Its not your mom's bologna. I am not a fan, but glad I did it. And the pies here!
Blues City Cafe on Beale - not often mentioned but good ribs here.

Central, BBQ Shop or Germantown Commissary will all do you right on ribs.

One and Only is a great barbeque place that doesn't get the love it deserves.

Everything I have had there (including ribs) is really good. Their smoked chicken is outstanding.

I am from Memphis and LOVE Top's BBQ the best. However, if you are wanting more of a dining experience. Rendezvous or The Commissary in G'Town.

Bookmarked... spending a few days there with my wife in June, staying downtown but I'm sure we'll venture out some.

Tops. Found the Q middle of the road, but the Cheeseburger there is unstoppable. Old school all the way. Parking lot gets sketchy there after dark.

If you're staying downtown with your son and want ribs, I'd say you need to go to the Rendezvous for the experience.

I usually send people from out of town to different places based on what they want (ribs, pulled pork, or chicken).

Central and Germantown Commissary have the best chicken; the dry rub wings at Central are great and I love their vinegar sauce and the mustard sauce. Everything is good at the Commissary except I hate their sauce, it is a very sweet sauce and I prefer vinegar.

As someone said above, Rendezvous, Central, BBQ Shop all have good ribs; I also love the bologna and cheese plate at BBQ Shop as well as their sauce. Cozy Corner has good ribs too, but I usually get the Cornish game hen or wings.

Tops is a chain that has locations all over, and is good for a pulled pork sandwich.
