Dude there isn't 60-80 guides catching limits of trout everyday on the lake. The majority of the guides only guide during the summer months also. I fished about 40 days in June and July, and saw maybe 20 guide boats on the busiest days.
True...My buddy is a guide and some days the sheriff boat tells him 20 trout is the most he's seen in 1 boat.

That 3rd weir was open every time I went earlier in the year because I ran my boat through it....

Dude... Been fishing that lake since the early 90s. It's a clusterfrick.
Sorry you didn't go b/w the lines... I was getting at there could be up to that many guides a day. And yes there are that many including the people from Texas. Just b/c you didn't see them doesn't mean they weren't there.... Not arguing, but there is a problem. Shrimp are more than a couple weeks behind as well...

We caught small trout early at the washout on voodoo shrimp then it was very slow until around noon. We were able to get some shrimp and went into black lake. First spot we set up on we caught until the rain ran us off. Caught quite a few but lots of small ones.

Where were you guys on the lake? South end I imagine. Near the weirs? The jetties?

I've caught exactly 6 trout this year 5 of them were too small/too close to keep. Some reds and so many flounder I've quit keeping them.

Trout have evaded me for the most part.

Anyways, sounds like a good time with your son. Congrats.

Thanks. My son needs to catch a flounder for his STAR entry. We haven't been able to get one yet but we are about to concentrate on it. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
None of the trout we caught were over 15" today although I did have a good size one get me in the trolling motor and break the line. Redfish we kept were all nice size but we did catch quite a few rats as well. Best trip I've ever had with him.

Tips for flounder? Drag a white (been catching on white gulp swimming mullets and White Berkeley swim bates) on the bottom and set hook. Been catching in the shallows near the banks. Just look for bait fish. Net 'em or flip 'em in the boat quick.

Thanks. He turned 8 in Feb and I'm a saltwater novice so we have a lot to learn. He needs to catch one before Labor day
