We're at 15 if the Young signing is true this time, so we'd have to cut someone. He'll probably get a Training Camp invite.

Can you give me a brief synopsis of this guy? Didn't follow the summer league like a should have. Is he a shooter or slasher or what? Worth cutting Babbitt for?

He is a shooter. Shot very well from deep in the games. Small sample sizes are dangerous, but he earned a camp invite. This will hopefully give us time to see how Ryno progresses, as well. Fells could probably defend 3s better than Babbitt, so he may fit our needs better.

He shot extremly well and is good overall.

I really don't think so but it depends more of what position you're looking for than how good or bad you think Babbitt is.

If someone has to get cut for him, it would be Jimmer IMO (not sure if it's possible cap wise tho).

What has Babbitt done to earn a roster spot this year?

Signing Young gives us Asik-Davis-Anderson-Ajinça-Young-Withey in the front court. We need wings who can make 3s more than anything else. Fells is that. Babbit is not. I think it is worth checking them both out.

Jimmer was an odd pickup, but shows that they are looking for shooters, probably to play with Evans.

Jimmer was signed to replace morrow.

For a 40+% 3 point guy(that costs the vet min.) that's not a bad replacement for him imo.

I just watched a little video of him: I think he could play a Troy Daniels type role for this team. Probably not a full year roster spot, but a few 10-days, then maybe a rest of the year contract depending on how everyone else develops u

Would be redundant with Ferdette on the team. I think the team is happy with what they have right now. He may get an invite to camp to see how he fair against nba quality players but I don't expect us to sign him with Miller coming back.

Assuming Jimmer is a guaranteed deal, the roster looks like:

6 guards (Jrue, Gordon, Evans, Smith, Rivers, Jimmer)
4 wings (Evans, Miller, Salmons, Babbitt)
7 bigs (Davis, Anderson, Asik, Ajinca, Withey, Young, Babbitt)

Overall solid. Wings are weak...duh. Would have liked some bigger guards, a bit more athleticism from the wing, and I'm not sure they really need 3 backup bigs with no real skills on offense, but whatever. Minor nitpicks. They've got shooting, playmaking, defense, etc. Just have to put it all together

Those 2 positions won't look like that when the ball is tipped off for the first game. Babbitt and Withey really haven't done anything to earn a spot. Quite frankly, I was hoping that Withey would get rid of his his cement shoes in the Summer League and show he belongs...that didn't happen. If you watched any of the SL games, what you saw was Young moving well on both sides of the ball and fighting for rebounds all over the place. Young is not a polished offensive player, but his hustle and energy will come in handy when we have to play on a short rest.

As for Withey, he tested the ref's recognition of the 3 second rule; he planted himself at the rim. He wasn't good in the Summer League last year and he didn't do anything to improve on that. IMO

As for Fells, the guy can absolutely stroke the ball. The guy puts so much air under the ball it looks like he's aiming for the rafters. I'd like to see him stick, but I think we already have a number of guys who do the same thing.

I wouldn't be surprised if Withey is waived. No need to keep 3 backup bigs, who all do the same thing, behind Asik, Anderson, Davis.

Babbitt probably sticks. He is more of Anderson stand in than a wing. But he is the only other guy on the roster who can play stretch 4. Still would like to see them get an athletic, defensive minded wing. When teams go small, not sure we really want Davis guarding the Durants, Melos, LBJs, etc.

Not sure they need Fells if all he does is shoot. Why sign Jimmer if you think Fells can do the same thing and is 4 inches taller? Maybe Jimmer isn't a guaranteed deal?

I don't think they need to make a move unless an injury happens to Tyreke or Salmons and you need to add a wing. If they are done with Withey it'd be nice to at least find a Juju/Beli style trade where we could get a young wing back. A ton of them went in the 2nd round this year.

Fells can't do what Jimmer can do. There are reasons that the 27 year old Fells hasn't played a single minute in the NBA.

Likewise, there are reasons Jimmer couldn't cut it in Sacramento and then played all of 56 minutes with a Chicago Bulls team that desperately needed shooting. Both guys are end of bench players. Jimmer is just someone we have all heard about before.
