Been searching for an alternative to T-Top or bimini for my CC. Price and other factors led me to this. I have rigged a mount on my console to use a 9 foot patio umbrella for some shade while fishing. To me biminis have too many poles and straps and get in the way of fishing and I can't park my boat in the garage with a T-Top. Price of those was also a factor. I know I'll probably get some strange looks on the water, but I'll be shaded and should be able to fish pretty easily with it. Let me know your thoughts.

You can't move with it open.

Neauxla: yeah I would crank it down when I need to move, or take it off the mount. My buddy suggested I put another mount on the other side and make my own t-top that would snap in where the umbrella normally snaps in so I can park inside.

T-Topless looks pretty neat.

I second the folding T-Top idea. Not only do they provide shade, but they are an excellent place for storage and rigging. We have a box with a depth finder and cd player under the T, along with a couple dry boxes for misc supplies. Throw in a couple T-Bags for life jackets and other safety items and you've really created a lot of extra storage in your on board compartments.

It's a good idea. I've seen a boat or two with an umbrella set up before. My only thought was "bet it feels nice under that shade."

For ease of use, I'd get an umbrella that you raise by hand or a pulley and rope rather than one with the hand crank. Cranking would get old. If it had a bendable top, that would be better too. And don't forget to put a hole in the mounting tube and umbrella so you can slide a pin through. Otherwise, you'd lose the umbrella if a gust of wind takes it.

The more I think about this, the more I like your idea. Collapse it when your on the move and maybe wrap a strap around it to keep the material from catching too much wind. Pop it open when you need some shade.

Looked at the tucci but seems to be more rigging and crap than what you need because they want you to be able to cruise with it open.

I use a beach umbrella in the rod holder sometimes when the woman comes with me. The shade is nice, its free, and mounting is easy.
You cannot ride with it up. It's a decent alternative if you any want shade a few trips a year, but it's not an OB baller move.

I do this too - but I use it even without the women.

Then I thought like this.

How'd you get this picture?
I know the lady and her husband. She actually works with my mom and the guy taking the picture is a trainer at the gym I go to.

- On topic, my buddy puts a patio umbrella on his center console and it works just fine haha take it down when running. I have thought about doing the same or going w/ a Bimini
