Long story short...

Will be heading East thru Baton Rouge on I-10 back to Georgia, but looking for a nice beach/community to stay the night at somewhere before Mobile --- any advice... If I could I would power thru to Ft. Walton, but I don't think that's a reality

hahaha! that's what I thought - I guess I should say, what gets the best recommendation as far as overall city/town goes, throwing "beach quality" out the window

BSL is a great little coastal town. I 100% guarantee if you come it will not be the last time you visit. I can provide food and drink information if you decide on it. I'm not sure what your other options are...Ocean Springs maybe the only other one.

Ocean Springs blows away BSL in every regard...but I am a little biased and live in Ocean Springs

I've never been. I always say I'm going to make it down there to check it out but in 10 years I still have not.

I know you said before Mobile but Gulf Shores isn't that far out of the way and a very popular vacation spot.

EDIT: Nevermind. I guess if you wanted to drive that much farther you would "power thru" to FW, Florida.

Ocean Springs I guess. I stop there sometimes between LA and Georgia but usually just to sleep. There is a Best Western just off the interstate isn't bad. Occasionally I'll visit the Walter Anderson store/museum. He's one of the few artists I actually am into, especially his wildlife stuff.
