You are telling me that there aren't coaches out there that could have helped this team compete better this year?

I don't pretend to be omniscient. I have no crystal ball. That said, no available coach was coming in and making this team much better this year.

3 players does not a team make.

I'm basing my opinion off of reports dating back months. Reports that often overlap between reporters local and national. You have zero basis for your belief that they disguised their performance-based firing with their inability to coexist with Jackson.

They just kept putting out those reports about his abrasiveness and hostile work environment in CASE he failed to perform. Makes perfect sense...

So, if they would have beat the Clippers and made it deep into the next round or further, would that have saved his job? I mea, if they hated the dude that much, why not can him during the season? Why should his results in the postseason be a determining factor if he were to keep his job?

ETA. not being a dick. I know how you can get.

Jackson had full reign.

He brought in Scalerbrine as a "Jackson guy" only to feud with him and demote him to the nbdl.

he feuded with mike Malone (another guy chosen by Jackson) and the two would go weeks without speaking.

They had the assistant coach fired for secretly taping coaches' conversations

He also "tried and failed" to land the LAC and the Nets job while still under contract with GS.

Of course his defense was good; he had a bunch of talented defensive players.

Funny how people shun avery Johnson and want this guy. Both inherited great teams but have tons of holes when it comes to managing a team and staff as well as being an actual nba coach.

Yep. Or why they would replace Monty with him. If they dump Williams, I want no part of Johnson or Jackson.

He's not known as a good x and o guy. He's brash with the media. His players love him and play hard for him.

Jackson or Monty?

"Avery Johnson Out" thread from the MSB after Johnson was fired by Cuban.

Bad move in my opinion.

horrible decision

Someone will be lucky to pick him up.

its not avery johnsnons fault they brought in kidd and he sucked.

Bad move for the Mavs. It's not Avery's fault that they blew the Finals. It certainly isn't his fault that they lost to the Warriors. And most importantly, it's definitely not his fault that the Mavs decided to trade for Kidd's old arse. He's one of the 5-7 best coaches in the league IMO.

quote:

Though I don't like the move, it really doesn't make a difference who's coaching when the Mavs' roster is a mess.

quote:

Seriously, Avery is about the only thing the Mavs have going for them. It's not his fault that the players CHOKED in the Finals.

I don't know what's worse - those comments or the ones about D'Antoni.

I'd much rather take a flyer on someone and hope we get a Hornacek type hire. Jackson is better than Monty. True. But that doesn't mean he's the type of coach to really make a difference for a team like us

@ryenarussillo: Not surprised so many people question G St. today, but if you are just looking at the W-L record you are making a mistake.

@ryenarussillo: There were serious issues w/ how he staffed his assistants. Felt he wasn't great w/ 2nd unit, close losses out-coached. Personality clashes

Russillo is pretty spot on regarding the NBA.

This is how my interview with him would go:

Me: Are you Monty Williams?

Him: No.

Me: You're hired.

Well done!
