Yea, what most people don't realize is that even if their guy works at Guardian or Met or whatever, they can sell them a policy from pretty much everywhere. They like staying in house, but your guy could sell you a NYL policy.

The only peoe he couldn't sell are northwestern Mutual. They have exclusive contracts with their agents.

So, more of just a word to the wise for whoever reading, if you are meeting with somebody, don't limit yourself to just looking at the products his company offers. He can sell you most stuff in the market, so why not get the best?
