So for my last little while here in the shithole that is Hawaii, I've done some fishing with a local buddy of mine, and I'd like some comparisons with how ya'll do on the mainland.

What size yellowfin do you typically pull in? And for you yakers, what's the biggest you've ever hauled in?

For your SA, I'm thinking about getting a kayak when I get back at LSU, but not sure if I'd have much opportunity to use it around BR.

only way this would be possible would be to tow a kayak way out there

But, on rod-n-reel, we catch between 50 - 200lb YFT here

I don't know of anyone fishing offshore here in their yak. Not to say they don't, I just don't know anything about it.

I know they catch a lot if species in the pan handle of fla. Snapper, mahi, kings, triggers, blackfin, pompano, cobia and the occasional sail.

not sure if serious. hat is right on the tuna though: 50-200lb. 200lb is a monster though.

pretty much no one kayaks offshore so the biggest fish people catch is going to be a red, or maybe a jack crevalle. i'm sure there are plenty places that you can catch bull reds from a yak though, if that's your thing.

average 40-80 lbs on the yft in about 1500 ft. If you want to fish all day and spend some time on it you can get the 150-200 lbers... Best bait i've used so far has been butterflied bonito. state limit is 3/per person.

I've never offshore fished in mine. Closest salt water to LSU is about 1hr 45 min. But there are about 10 different places within that time range. Big lake, Galliano, Delacroix, Lake Pontch bridges, etc.
