There was an SF element led by Lt Col Gibson. It is my understanding they were Army National Guard on an ADOS (it is a reserve component funding mechanism) tour. They had done several months in Libya but their mission had been discontinued. Apparently they were still in country but not permitted to deploy from Tripoli to Benghazi.

Bottom line, they would have been prepared to respond to an emergency.

Talked to a Utah boy about this. Unless he is mistaken, and I'm sure he know just about everyone out west, you are correct. I think the good Lt. Col mentioned this as well.

Thanks for reminding of his name. That man laid his nuts on the table after this incident. I have a lot of respect for him.

IMO an sf oda with several months in country, tasked specifically for this mission, would have more "options" available in a crisis. They would also be prepared to handle the situation as well as it could be handled. All those pesky logistical concerns that go with getting blown out are sort of an SF specialty.

What a turrible decision to remove these guys. IMO they are the best before, during and after force the military has.

Yes, interesting stuff. I don't know if it will ever be confirmed but I believe there is a lot of truth to what I posted months ago.

CIA were trying to evacuate the area. Something went terribly wrong that night and military strikes would have jepordized or revealed exactly what CIA was up too. I don't think there is any doubt that the CIA was the reason no military support was given that night.

They took action and protected people by closing every embassy when they got the code words.

Well, doing nothing worked wonders, didn't it?

And for whom does the CIA work?

Not to rain on this thread's parade. But we knew all of this within 2 weeks of the Benghazi incident. Fox reported it.

Is it suddenly true because CBS parroted it a year and a half later?
