How do you squad up? My and my brother had to play on different teams the whole time the other night. I read somewhere that there were no plans to implement a way to play with friends. Is that true? If so WTF.

It's FUBAR.
What we have to do is get into a party chat through PSN. Then, we join a server with a lot of open slots and try to join on each other and team switch.
The bad part is the terrible rubberbanding and the fact that there is no squad menu make it very unappealing for friends to play together.
