Has anyone here had firsthand experience with both of these scopes? I was looking at the 1.7-10x42 Z6, but was wondering if it's worth the extra money over the Z5?

What's the difference?

The glass is likely the same, but the magnification is different. The Z6 seems have a development in range of magnification. Always buy the best glass you can afford. what's a few hundred more dollars if your spending over a thousand already.

This is obviously a brag thread, but I couldn't pass up looking at the newest scopes.

If the glass is the same, I don't really get it. The Z5 seems to give you more magnification for the money. Just wondering if anyone here had compared them, seems to be conflicting info on the web.

Not really a brag. It's something I will be having for quite some time, so I don't mind spending the $. But the difference is about $500. $500 is still $500!

Neither. If you're spending that kind of money buy a Schmidt and Bender.

I think I'm settled on the Z6, what the hell. Can't take it with you.

Fisherbm, why do you say that? As if S&B is worlds above Swarovski. Have you had experience with both of them?

S&B, Swarovski, Zeiss, NF, USO all have excellent reputations, I haven't seen anything really saying that one brand is superior to the other. I've looked all those brands and was impressed with every one of them.

Find a gunsmith or someone that will let you look at dusk. You will see. Do some research on the quality of Schmidt compared to swaro. Not knocking. Just saying that if you really want the best scope on the market you will pick what is and has been trusted by our military forces for years. I have looked through a decent amount of glass and I haven't seen much that compares to Schmidt.

Schmidt and Bender is good shite. So is swarovski and night force. I personally wouldn't use NF on a hunting rifle just because the ones I've had experience with are heavy as shite and bulky, but thats my opinion. I've shot them all and I shoot Leupold. That is not to say I would not use the others. They are all GREAT scopes.

I agree 100% with technology now there is a whole lot of really good glass. The only thing I was trying to say is that if you are going to spend that type of money I would only go one way. Just my 2 cents.

Zero experience with the upper levels but I love my Z3. Clear is an understatement and unrivaled light gathering.

I just ordered the gun yesterday, so no telling how long it will take to come in. The people at Jim's said they would let me know ASAP. So I should have some time to go compare side by side.

The zenith seems to the the comparable model to the Z6. One with similar zoom has a 50mm obj, which is larger than I was looking for. But if it's obviously clearer, I can get past it. Looks like they have S&B dealers in St. Amant and Hammond. I'll go check them out and report back.
