David Beckham is in the final round of negotiations with backers for his return to Major League Soccer as the owner of a new franchise in Miami. The former England captain had a clause in his original contract with LA Galaxy allowing him to buy an MLS club with a 25 per cent discount and has almost settled on Florida, where the MLS are keen to expand. He is expected to announce progress before Christmas once his co-investors are in place. These could include Bolivia-born billionaire Marcelo Claure, who tried unsuccessfully to launch an MLS franchise in Florida in 2009 and joined Beckham in looking at potential stadiums in the Miami area last June.

I disagree..
Yes, fans a pretty fair weather here, but no more so than other similar sports towns.

Votes for Toronto Atlanta

Plus we have a disadvantage because hardly anyone in south florida is actually from south florida. There are large number of fans from New York, New Jersey, Boston who all live here now who don't support local teams because of long lasting ties to former teams.

As for the Heat, There were plenty of fans prior to the Lebron years as D Wade has been one of the highest selling jerseys in the league for years.

Marlin attendance numbers would be much higher if the entire town didn't hate the franchise for the stadium fiasco

Well we all knew this was going to happen. They probably need to sign atleast one big name player out of the gate.

I'd say South American would be more likely since the biggest investor is from Bolivia. Too bad Messi isn't a little bit older because that would be a good move.

They surely have to come up with a better name this time around than Fusion, right?

Doubt he has too much in stake on this agreement.. I would imagine the discount that was built into mls contract was most of what he brought to the table with his other investors
