Children of Men

It has been a long time since I've seen this film, and I forgot alot about it honestly. I saw it drunk in the frat house a few years back, and don't think I appreciated it fully. Looking forward to Gravity, I decided to watch it again.
Just got finished, and I was blown away by it again. That long take where he's navigating the battle with the army vs the refugees was simply incredible and I can only imagine how big of a pain in the arse that scene was to film, not to mention the car sequence. No one can make you feel like you're in a scene like Cuaron can. He's simply incredible at it, and made me look forward to the supposed 17 minute non-stop take in Gravity. The scene towards the end almost brings you to tears, and definitely one of my favorite emotional scenes.
Just a really great film that I mostly sadly forgot about, and highly recommend it.
And to ILoveMoney who suggested "I Am Legend" is on debatably equal footing:

Just read the summary to the book it was based on, and the two don't have that much in common aside from fertility issues in the future.

Yeah, i think i heard somewhere that the Movie was actually vastly superior to the book

Very good movie and I too am looking forward to Gravity. I saw somebody refer to CoM as the best movie of the decade on this board the other day. Personally, I don't think it is the best sci fi movie of the decade. I prefer District 9 and maybe even Moon. What say you?

It's in the Top 5 for sure. I think I'd put Wall-e over this movie, and maybe tie it with Moon. I really like District 9, but honestly I don't have much desire to go rewatch it like I do the other 3 I've mentioned. I'll get back to you on this since I'm still trying to reabsorb the film.

Just rewatched District 9 and loved it again. Its heady, highly original, and extremely well done IMO. It was ambitious and pulled it off without going too far which would have been easy to do. I hate to say I never did see Wall-E but will get on that ASAP.

I cant wait. Im having a little trouble getting over Sandra as one of the leads. I just dont like her acting very much. Just IMHO. But thinking about it, she may do well in an astronaut role.

Alfonso Cuaron is one of my favorite directors in Hollywood. I never saw Y Tu Mama Tambien but I did see his take on Great Expectations, as well as Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and Children of Men. I loved all three of them - though I liked Azkaban more for its artistic qualities rather than its faithfulness to the source material.

Wall-E is GREAT.
Children of Men is one of those movies that is adored on this board. And don't get me wrong, I liked it when I saw it a few years ago, but it didn't strike me as the godly piece of film people around here make it out to be. But I've always said I needed to go back and rewatch it to see if it's better the second time around.

Second, I've already addressed the fact that I was reaching a little bit when I said I Am Legend is up there with Children of Men. Again, I was merely attempting to demonstrate that Children of Men may not even be the best movie within its own genre, let alone the best movie period of the last decade. While I Am Legend has some truly remarkable scenes in it, it devolves into little more than a zombie flick in the second half.
Children of Men is a solid movie all around, but my initial assertion remains: This board is blowing Cuaron's balls over Children of Men for really no reason other than other people on this board have hyperbolically stated its the best movie of the last decade. Come on, now. Really? Better than the Departed? Please. It isn't even better than Never Let Me Go.
