well, there have already been some injuries. But what are you going to do?

shite like that happens every year.

Kenyon Coleman would've been nice to have in that rotation up front stopping the run. Victor Butler can hack it better than what we've put out on the field at OLB so far in the preseason, just taking a wild guess there...

efforts have been made to upgrade the defense but unfortunately shite like this happens.

Lewis had a hard time covering Andre Johnson but I won't read much into that.

reading this board, you'd think he got burned by Kevin Walter or somebody.

And we did beat them today. Just sayin.

Not sure how you can be 'just sayin' that about a preseason game when there was so little of first team vs. first team matchups.

Yet the same people last week saying that it's just preseason are the ones acting like the sky is falling now.

There where both positives and negatives coming out of this game

What i saw
Better tackling
Pressure from d line
Emergence of young reviewers
All three running backs look good

Poor coverage
Gashes in run defense
Pressure on brees

Fun to speculate but it's preseason all teams are vanilla and nearly all starting slots are sewn up on saints team overall i think we will be fine but who knows

Agreed, several coaches have publicly stated that they are NOT going to run much exotic defensive packages/plays or scheme too hard in the preseason.

I think we can all agree that we love just about everything we have for 2nd team players, which will result in great depth throughout the season when injuries inevitably continue to happen.

We will see exactly what the defense can do week 1 against the failcons!

With a back up QB against their starting QB no less.

I don't think that's accurate. They may be a few playmakers short, but they have the personnel.

I was discouraged by the run defense against Tate. But, most of his yards came out 2 or 3 runs.

quote:

44-B.Tate right guard to NO 46 for 2 yards
44-B.Tate up the middle to HOU 32 for 1 yard (then a fumble, HOU recover)
44-B.Tate left end to NO 28 for 39 yards
44-B.Tate up the middle to NO 2 for 8 yards
44-B.Tate up the middle to NO 1 for 1 yard
44-B.Tate left guard for 1 yard, TOUCHDOWN.
44-B.Tate left guard to HOU 26 for 5 yards
44-B.Tate right guard to NO 22 for 11 yards
44-B.Tate left tackle to NO 21 for 1 yard
44-B.Tate up the middle to HOU 29 for 3 yards
44-B.Tate up the middle to NO 37 for 1 yard

If they can contain the RB from having a big play or two, then this is a different stat line. Outside of 3 of these runs, you'd think you were looking at Mark Ingram's plays.

Now, Keenan Lewis vs Andre Johnson. I really hope this was a fluke. I understand Johnson is great, but Lewis made multiple bad decisions. He needs to clean that up.

If they can get constant pressure on the QB, and limit big plays, I don't see a big problem with the D so far. I'm optimistic, maybe.

Outside linebackers are a glaring need right now. I'm liking out dline. Maybe we can pick up a corner and a outside linebacker after all the cuts are made. Tez and Junior haven't played yet. Will they be ready for game 1 ? Hate to say it but I hope Smith is put on DL he is awful at outside LB

I'm a Kenny Vaccaro believer. Open field tackles? How long has it been? Too long.

The Texans running game and Tate aren't anything to scoff at. Tate rushed for almost 1,000 yards 2 seasons ago.

The fact that Scott Shanle is no longer good enough to play on the defense shows that talent has improved somewhat.

2011 we went 13-3 and were a pt broken jaw and a brain fart from #27 from having the NFC CG at home, we weren't that far away.

2012 the offense surely didn't help the D, that should be better this year

2013 we have a lot of new contributors. We were beating their starters at halftime away from home without a lot of our starters. Better than our showing in 2011 in a game we won against them.

The time to chill is now.

dline has been pretty good (at least compared to what we have had in the recent past)
olb are aweful. wilson/galette healthy? even if they are, this is still new.
ilb looked to be out of position at times. apparent this is still new for everyone here
db's look bad thus far only because there is very little pass rush

question is do these guys still have that much to learn about running a 3/4? Or is fat boy actually hiding something?

my answer: very few athletes on defense. brees better light it up. and NOT throw the ints he threw last year.
