honestly. his little feud with Doc was probably one of the funniest things i've seen in a while
I'm not defending Simmons because I like him, but he knows his shite about the history of basketball and the how the game is played. I mean like REALLY knows his shite.

If he doesn't understand some of the intricate details of small market teams or has an opinion people disagree with and that gets fans panties twisted up I can live with that.

And as far as the Doc thing, Simmons was 100% right on that one Doc being called out was totally deserved.

Simmons was very negative about the Pelicans recently, so really he and danman fit together perfectly.

??

Why is that funny?

I'm about to finish a 700+ page book by Simmons. That is my evidence he knows his shite.

What exactly makes you say that he doesn't know his shite? Because he had an opinion about something Hornets/Pelicans related you didn't like?

Also known as 'The Book of Basketball.' But I guess that doesn't make it sound as cool as when you say I've read 700+ pages.

That's damn strong.

He knows some stuff, but he's definitely no guru on basketball. I can write an essay on WWII, that doesn't make me an expert military strategist. He's a glorified blogger.

Well, his articles have always been predominantly fluff, but his childish ranting and lies about his dream trade were extremely unprofessional. That is exactly why I stopped reading anything he writes.

I would venture to say if you wrote a 700+ book with as much detail as Simmons' book about WWII you would probably consider yourself an expert

I don't read his blogs that often, but I enjoy them when I do.

But I've read enough of that and his book to know the dude knows his shite.

If you don't like his style or his "fluff" or "childish ranting" fair enough, but to deny that the guy knows basketball being based on your disliking of his style of writing is silly and unfounded.

How the hell is "Squad" not better than "Pellies"?

Squad is way too generic of a team sports term to gain any traction. Squadron may have a sliver of hope, but Pels will stick, to my chagrin. Joel Meyers will see to it.

Anyone that dogs Zach Lowe on his basketball knowledge, regardless of his Pelicans nickname preference, is a clown.

Simmons may also be a clown, but he is smart enough to have Lowe be his primary NBA writer at Grantland. That alone makes his site one of the first stops for quality NBA coverage

Read the article but not the whole thread here. Has anyone mentioned that the baseball team was called "Pels" for short?

Seems like a no-brainer to me.
