Pierre Jackson will sign with ASVEL Villeurbanne for the coming season. The rookie was close to moving to Italy in Brindisi but the French team entered in the negotiations and agreed with the player.

The General Manager of Enel Brindisi confirmed the report in an interview to La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno.

Jackson has pick selected in the 2013 NBA Draft and traded to the Pelicans.

This actually makes sense. He probably gets better experience than in the DLeague and next year hopefully he'll be ready to replace Roberts.

Dude will come back ready to take over the NBA and we sign and trade him and Eric Gordon to Miami for Lebron to replace DWade. Makes total sense.

Maybe. The benefit of the D League seems to be having a coach you trust work with your guy on specifics. Not a guarantee in Europe, but I would imagine Demps has plenty of contacts in Europe and they will stay in regular contact with him.

Pretty sure we retain his NBA rights as long as he doesn't go a full season without playing for someone.

Also, don't we get to take his salary off our books?

The Dleague is in a weird place right now. Enough NBA teams have bought their own DLeague team that the remaining 16 or so teams are sharing 3 teams. The team we're assigned to has 5 NBA teams using it.

The remaining three NBA D-League teams will have five or six NBA parent teams: Bakersfield Jam (Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns, Toronto Raptors, Utah Jazz), Fort Wayne Mad Ants (Charlotte, Detroit, Indiana, Memphis, Milwaukee, Orlando), Iowa Energy (Chicago Bulls, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, New Orleans Pelicans, Washington Wizards).

Yes, we wouldn't be paying him but would still keep his rights I believe.

Well shite. That's a good point. Europe probably is a better landing spot for him.

Why do you post? Any time I read a stupid comment, I don't even have to look to see the poster. It's always you. And they are never funny.

This is a pretty big factor I think. Not that he has a huge contract, and its not guaranteed, but for our purposes right now, it is much better having him in Europe.

I'm sure his agent looked at the numbers game here and talked to us about it quickly.

Ya, I'm a little curious as to why we don't hear about this happening more often. (minus players who were already playing in Europe.) Seems like a win/win.

The new CBA changed the economics of the game and puts a premium on developing cheap talent. I think over time you might start seeing more Brian Robertses and less Roger Mason Jr.s The difference between a rookie on a minimum deal and a grizzled veteran on a minimum deal is about $1 million. If you're a medium level tax team like the Heat, it's a $2 million difference. Don't get me wrong, Mason was very solid last year, better than Roberts, but the primary reason he's on the team is to shoot the 3 and he wasn't that much better than Roberts at that.

Mason 66/159 41.5%
Roberts 59/153 38.6%
