From my understanding the guys that used the additives said that they worked by breaking down into active nitrous compounds. Apparently the additives dilate the fuel lines allowing the Johnsons to have a more stiff and ridged response to the particular vessel.

Bp,, my blood supply, i mean fuel supply, due to a couple of serious incidents has slowed down to my Johnson. The motor cowling doesn't seem to be as large as it once was even though it still seems to have same HP after warming up.. Could uv rays coupled with "fuel" supply alter the size of cowling?

FWIW petroleum based lubricants will freaking eat holes in outboard covers. Especially the ones made for Johnsons. The holes are small and hard to see but let me tell you the will let all kinds of things through those holes. Failure to use proper water based or silicone based lubricants and the associated cover failure has created thousands of little expensive problems. Most of which you never intended to call your own.

Nah, cowling size is something you are essentially stuck with. You can try to have a skilled technician craft a larger cowling for you but I am told the process is VERY expensive and some what of a pain. As far as I know UV rays have nothing to do with making it larger. UV does in fact have deleterious effects on general covering materials though and Johnson coverings are no exception. Prolonged exposure without protection will indeed cause blemishes in the finish.

My Johnson still performs essentially the same as when it was new but someone keeps moving my two tanks further and further from the Johnson as the years go by. I suspect gravity.
