I was hooked after the first episode.

The real-ness of the projects captured me. I grew up dirt arse poor in several projects.

There is a shot in Ep1 of Bunk and McNulty walking down a street in the projects, with some trash around, the run down buildings etc. It is a totally realistic perspective as if you are standing across the street seeing them. Absolutely no souped up phony hollywood bullshite. I thought, well, I have neer seen anything on TV like this. I was fascinated from the first few minutes.

It looks like the real world because it is.

That is the beauty of the whole show (S5 excepted).
