Maiden.

Even though they're a little old for my tastes, they're both great bands.

Bolt Thrower and Carcass are my 2 fav british Metal bands. There aren't many bands out there that can write better riffs than Bolt Thrower. Those guys are death metal GOATs.

I put them about even. There's so many things you could argue back and forth, either way. just call it even. 2 of the best bands, ever.

Compare Sad Wings of Destiny and Number of the Beast albums.
Brilliance.

Give me your go-to Maiden album. I've been in a metal mood this week.

Somewhere In Time or Fear of the Dark.

I'm older and thus go all the way back to the beginning with Maiden.
Best album is Number of the Beast.
Can't go wrong with Piece of Mind either.

Don't love the Paul D'anno Maiden era as much as Bruce Dickinson obviously.

And considering the amount of hair metal in the 80's, I really never heard them on the radio and their exposure on MTV was limited.

I hope you are not lumping Maiden in with "Hair Metal".

Both emphasized quantity over quality by releasing a new album each year (sometimes with too many filler songs) but Maiden has by far more great albums.

that was just the business back then. Albums were shorter and came out more frequently typically for all acts.

Yeah, I probably should have clarified that!

I guess during the 80's hair metal explosion, MTV and radio shoved all the glam stuff down our throats, and kind of looked the other way at the no-gimmick metal bands like Iron Maiden.

Thanks to the other posters for album suggestions. I'll have to check it out

I totally beg to differ about the quality over quantity thing.

Let's look at the 7 albums in a short 6 year span:

Sad Wings
Sin after Sin
Stained Class
Hellbent for Leather
British Steel
Point of Entry
Screaming for Vengeance

Powerslave.

I love Maiden and Priest, won't pick one over the other. I just saw this thread and wanted to pop in to say:

When my son was 3.5yo he was toddling through the music section of Best Buy and just HAD to have The Final Frontier, so I bought it for him. Every day for a year whenever he climbed into his car seat for a ride he'd say, "can we listen to Iron Maiden daddy?"

"Sure, son. Up the irons!"

A few weeks ago I wanted to turn him on to some Priest so I bought a compilation and now he wants to hear that, all the time.

A 6 year old boy's vocal chords are perfect for hitting the high notes on "Exciter".
