I'm thinking about shifting a portion of my emergency savings into some CDs and I have been looking at PenFed. Any feedback on going this route, or should I go another route?

Yes. I don't use penfed for CDs, but I absolutely love the product/service.

Thanks, what is required to join if you're non-military?

I love penfed, no experience with their CDs though.

Just got the 5% cash back on gas card. I'm military but somehow didn't get the free thing. Did a $20 donation.

I financed a truck at 1.9% and I'm refinancing my house with them now. Their rates on loans are hard to beat.

All you need to do is join a military support organization for $20. There are links in the application process and it only takes 5 minutes.

I don't use PenFed, but it is a very good option....

That said, I've always made it a point to stay away from their counterpart, the FedPen!

FWIW, some credit unions will match PenFed. My best friend did this so that he could get PenFed rates with local branch service.

Also, PenFed has a very interesting 5/5 arm mortgage

I'd take PenFed's customer service over any credit union or bank I've walked into a physical location.

I have all my loans with them (car loans, 5/5 arm). There rates are unbelievable.

I'm not military, but joined SAME (free) since I had an edu account, which permitted me to become a penfed member. Not sure if you still can do that.

I refinanced a car loan with them down to 1.99%. Process went well.
