as long as it was still cold you can eat it. I don't advise re-freezing though.

My damn freezer did the same thing tonight. I refroze everything cause it was soft on the outside but still frozen in the middle. A few things completely thawed but I'll be cooking that tomorrow.

This will happen again and you won't know about it until it's too late IF you have your freezer plugged into one of those ground fault breaker outlets. I lost a whole freezer of stuff because of this. Built a new house and the code required that ground fault breaker outlet. I replaced the outlet with a non-ground fault breaker outlet after that happened. Lightning and power outages and who knows what else kept tripping that breaker outlet. Haven't had a problem since I changed it out. Lesson learned.

i don't like when it refreezes and gets that frostbite on it, kinda then gives it a freezer-burnt taste.
