Yikes! DVD Burner Blew Up!

I built my system about a year ago and the only time I have used the DVD player was to put the Op system on the computer.
Had something I needed to load in tonight so I placed the DVD in the tray, closed it and nothing happened. So I opened it up and closed it again.
BOOOOOOOM!
Wicked load crack.
Opened the tray and little bits and pieces of the dvd were all that remained.
Scared the crap out of me. Sounded like a gunshot from inside the tower.
