1. I don't think you've ever made a post without a typo.
2. You are strange.

I couldn't remember Bama's big guy's name, but if he hadn't fouled out, that might have been 2nd year in a row that an SEC team kept Knight from the championship.

Definitely was there . I was in the 9th grade at the time but my Dad was great friends with the late great gentleman Donald Ray Kennard who was an academic advisor for the athletes, spotter for the Tiger Football games radio broadcast and representative to the Louisiana Legislature for the Central area. All that to say that tickets were extremely hard to come by and he got My Dad and I two tickets. Never pulled so hard for Bama in my life because could not stand Indiana and Bobby Knight at the time. If I remember correctly Bama finally made a run in the 2nd half and I want to say cut Indiana's lead down to 3 or 4, the Assembly Center at that time erupted with much cheering . Second game that night was so so although a close game between WMU and Marquette with Marquette winning a close one I think. The Saturday game was a great game once again with Indiana pulling away at the end . Al MaGuire received a technical foul either sometimes in the first half or early in the 2nd half. Greatm game and I actually think Indy was ranked #1 and Marquette #2. Pretty sure next year the NCAA started seeding the teams. Anyway thanks for the memories and three games that rank as some of my best besides the many LSU Basketball games I attended throughout all my years.

Was there also. Indiana was No. 1 and that was the year they went undefeated. I also think Marquette was No. 2. One of the best games I have ever seen.

Definitely remember it being a pro Bama crown and definitely pulling for the SEC that night. As you mentioned earlier great game between Benson and Leon Douglas and then I believe it was T.R. Dunn that Bama had at guard that was playing real well. Indiana really had a great starting 5 with Benson, Buckner, Scott May, Bobby Wilkerson and Tom Abernathy . Then I think they had Rick Valivissious (sp) who was their 6th man who I think sometime later transferred to Auburn. Again some great games, Hate you had to go study for MidTErms but know how that is. Had to miss a game or two for studying when we Hosted the regional when we beat Purdue and Gene Keady on that Thursday nightwhich I think was an OT game and then that Barn Burner of a game on Saturday when we knocked out Memphis.

Agree with you there, certainly one of the best basketball games I was able to attend. Im with you , I remember Indiana being ranked #1 and Marquette being ranked #2 and then the following year the NCAA beginning to seed teams because during those years the Mideast regional was usually basically the NCAA championship with teams like Indiana, Marquette, Kentucky and Notre Dame all coming from the Mideast.

We sat in the first row under the basket and those guys punished each other. I remember struggling to find someone to use my extra ticket. How times have changed. I think that Indiana team was the last undefeated team. That was when McGuire used to go get a point guard from the playgrounds of New York and surround him with athletes.

That had to have been some great seats. I was sitting about 7 to 8 rows from the top with my cousin which was then mostly the purple seats at the top of the Assembly Center. Would have loved to have been lower. I cant imagine the battle between Kent Benson and Leon Douglas and I know Jerome Whitehead was playing for Marquette at the time but I dont remember if Butch Lee was at guard for them at that time. I could be wrong on his name but the guard Im thinking of gave the USA fits during the 1976 Olympics and he was from Pueto Rico and played for them but attended Marquette and I think he was playing for McGuire at the time.

Yes, I remember you dragged me there against my will. Oh, and I STILL hate basketball!! LOL!!

Anyway, I'm in L.A. this week--I'll call you for your B-Day Thursday early before we get started here. Take care, buddy.
