Smart by Mingo to pay off the LSU coaches to help him get drafted ahead of Montgomery

they shouldn't be saying this to reporters.
They aren't in college anymore, they can say pretty much whatever.

Well, your thread got whacked, and I didn't want it to get whacked, so I reserve the right to call you a dumbass for getting it whacked when you could have easily avoided it.

Can't avoid idiot rant adds turning the topic from OP into a Les vs Saban dispute, plus same reason this one has anchor is conjuncture over players gambling while at LSU is forbidden.

quote:Eh, not necessarily. I mean, for an average college kid sure. But for college kids with 1 Mil plus common there way, this is nothing. Don't know exactly where they got the money at the time and I understand that the immediate response is to assume through illegal benefits.
For college kids to bet, hell yeah it is.
But also keep in mind that these guys are still eligible for student loans. For a 22 year old kid who knows he will be making over a million dollars in less than a year, it's not ridiculous to think that they take out some huge student loan that affords an extremely comfortable lifestyle.
It's not exactly difficult to get student loans these days, so it isn't ridiculous to think that they took out loans of $50,000+ a year. And when all of your tuition and housing is covered, that leaves a ton of money for a 22 year old to have fun with.
Point being, no reason to jump to conclusions of improper benefits unless something more definitive comes out.

For college kids, I disagree.
I don't see how hard this is to understand. They made a bet on who will be drafted first.
Meaning they won't be able to pay said bet until after they're drafted.
Talking about the 1,500... It's not that much money, even for a college kid, since they've got a full ride.

Actually had he linked it they made 500 bet on the last game of season on who would have most sacks and a 1000 bet in who would have most sacks over course of year

Not when they sign a multi-million dollar contract

LSU is getting blasted in the comments section of that article.
My dad bets his golf friends every day. I think if you subtract all his winnings from all his loses, it would total $0.
He's saying they made lots of little bets that totaled $1500. Then they made a couple huge bets on the last game of season to be paid after the draft.
Which Sam would not have put our entire football program in defense mode.
