And what caliber would be best hunting in South Louisiana with a max shot of 150 yards? .35 Whelen? .45-70?

I'm looking to buy my first "primitive" weapon and I'm unfamiliar with most of them so any help would be greatly appreciated

35 Whelen. No debate.

T/C is an excellent choice. The Encore allows you to change barrels, obviously. But this doesn't matter if you already own the calibers you hunt with.

CVA is an excellent choice if you want to save a couple hundred $. This is what I chose to do.

I'm thinking about doing the same.

45-70 for 150 in good as needed.

I almost bought a 44mag handi rifle for my kids to be able to use. Glad I put it off
