Pretty unique perspective, though it looks to be a bit shaky when the ref is on the move.

This vision is from a trial match between the Brumbies and an ACT representative team at Viking Park, Canberra, on Friday 8 February. The referee wearing the very first Ref Cam is James Leckie.

This coming weekend fans will get to see rugby from an entirely new angle as Fox Sports will be using their new Ref Cam for the Reds vs Waratahs Super Rugby game.

The new angle gives us insight into the referee's vision on the field, also bringing the viewer much closer to the action.

Never realized how much ground the refs cover, but they get around pretty good. Then again they're not the ones hoisting 240 lb lock forwards on line-outs or compressing their own spines in scrummage.

That's pretty awesome. One of the things I love about watching rugby is that they always have the ref mic'd up so you can hear all his calls and explanations. This just adds to that, especially if you get to hear some of the banter between the ref and players like we did in that video.

It is a bit shaky, but I don't suspect there is much that they can really do about that.
