I'm looking for a good concealed carry gun and I'm trying to decide between the compact glock and the smaller version of ruger 1911? Anybody have either of these pistols that can give some good insight? It will be greatly appreciated

i have the G30, not a very concealable gun imo. G36 is slimmer.

I have an older Glock 30 and it's a good gun. It's a little thick, but it's not to hard to carry if you want. The Ruger 1911 is going to be thinner, but also full sized and heavy, and carry fewer rounds.

Glock vs 1911. Oh Jesus.

I vote 1911 but in reality if you plan to conceal carry in Louisiana you want the lightest, thinnest gun possible. Your clothing greatly affects what you can conceal along with your body type. Weather plays a factor with your clothing.

Remember a gun in you belt gets heavy and sweaty and uncomfortable when concealing in many instances.

You are looking at two different ends of the spectrum. I think you should try both out and see what fits your hands and waist better before you decide.

One pistol is a striker fired plastic gun with no manual safety the other is a single action manual safety piece. I think you should fire both and see what you feel better with.

If you have to choose between these two, you know the obvious answer. The Ruger SR1911 Commander is the way to go.

But I wouldn't choose either one. For these reasons:

1. The Glock is too thick. A double stack 45 is going to be thick as shite. There is no way around that.

2. A metal-framed 1911, regardless of barrel length, is going to be heavy. If you can carry it comfortably and it doesn't bother you, then by all means go for it. But if you really want light weight carry, go for something with a polymer frame. As much as I love 1911s, I don't think I'll ever carry one because their much heavier compared to a lot of other carry pieces.

I carry a Kahr CM9 and a Ruger SR9c. If you're set on 45, I would suggest the Kahr CW45. It's a slim single stack just like the SR1911 Commander, but it also has a polymer frame. You'll be carrying this thing in your waist for extended periods of time. It's best to be prepared for that and travel lightly.

The Ruger will be thinner however probably heavier (never held their commander model). The Glock will be lighter however bulker. I prefer a thinner gun that is why I am a 1911 guy. Go hold both of them and get the one you think you will be more comfortable carrying because if you aren't comfortable you won't carry it.

The glock 30s is a model that has just been recently released that has similar dimensions as the 30 but with a much slimmer slide so it is supposed to be more comfortable for concealed carry.
