The story goes that pat dye killed wrestling at auburn when he walked into the wrestling room and said it would make a great weight room. Then soon after it was. Don't know the validity of the story. More than likely just dropped it when everyone else did.

Never understood why the sec couldn't have wrestling. All you need is a mat and a building. A mat is 6 grand and their is are plenty of empty rooms on college campuses. Make the team raise their own funds. I can imagine it being hard to do.

I know Bowden and bear Bryant supported wrestling for off season toughness work . Wrestling will take an above average football player and make him a killer.

I sell that all day. Linemen are wasting their time doing anything else.

I hate racewalking considering I am a huge track fan, but racewalking is covered under Athletics which means it is just a track and field event, not it's own sport.

And as for amateur vs pro, those lines could be so blurred now that an amateur athlete could probably fair just as well as common pro athletes of non-major sports. IE, Nike pumps a ton of money into the USOC or something like that and those guys get great facilities, housing, food, gear, etc. paid for and not a true paycheck.
