We've talked about how drafting and contracts are as vital to continued team success as on the field performance. The amount of time being on the field isn't a measure of quality but reliable every down players are a component of success.

Here I've taken last year's player salary (not including bonuses paid) and divided it by the number of snaps. So ya could ya could call this price per snap-

% of snaps played & $ per snap
Herring 8.97% $12745 per snap
Ellis 62.36 $8203
McBride 12.31 $5714
Casillas 21.90 $5060
Shanle 19.26 $4795
Harper 96.48 $4102
Vilma 35.71 $3941
Greer 71.94 $2934
Mack 22.34 $2756
Hawthorne 28.14 $2188
Patrick 18.91 $2163
Bunkley 32.10 $1918
Wilson 23.75 $1722
Galette 26.21 $1644
Jenkins 76.78 $1251
Johnson 36.85 $1112
Hicks 32.72 $1048
Smith 86.72 $995
IAQ 41.60 $983
White 45.65 $751
Jordan 91.29 $700
Lofton 98.59 $624
Robinson 96.13 $494

sorry for putting these up early, hope it doesn't upset any lunch plans

Saints need to add a clause that says players exceeding $3K per snap owe the team a refund.

1137 snaps X 11 positions= 12507 total snaps. If ya took $60mil for defense (about 1/2 the cap) and divided it by that= $4797 per snap per position. So a player at 90% of snaps= $4317 per snap, 75%= $3598. So $3K isn't that far off. Unfortunately they don't do salaries tied to playing time that close. Occasionally ya hear of one with some playing time thresholds but not that often.

dayum, saw this today, made me think we need to get more of the "requirements" into contracts...

49ers OLB Ahmad Brooks' 2013 salary has de-escalated from $4.3 million to $2.7 million because he "did not meet certain requirements."
Those "certain requirements" included playing 93.2 percent of the 49ers' defensive snaps, and San Francisco winning 12 games. It's rough stuff for a player who had a big season, notching 47 tackles, 6.5 sacks and an interception. Going on 29, Brooks graded out as the No. 5 3-4 outside linebacker in Pro Football Focus' ratings after being No. 22 a season ago.
LINK

$2.7million for the #5 rated LB?!? And our cap hit is $1.93mil for Herring and $1.45mil for Chamberlain?!?
