Here's a fricking interesting thought... Is the MLS indirectly causing more harm to US Soccer than it is helping?

Maybe currently, but it will be more beneficial in the long run.

(I'm assuming you're talking about Latino's improving in our league and then beating us on the international stage?)

Has MLS become more of a developmental league for Central America, helping these countries improve to where they are now on even terms with US?

It's not.

Without MLS we wouldn't have a player pool as big as we do. All but four of our players on our roster today have played in MLS at some point.

As for helping out CONCACAF brethren, it doesn't really matter because some of those guys would find jobs in Colombia, Mexico and other lower tier Latin American leagues.

Boniek Garcia and Mario Martinez would be playing somewhere other than MLS for sure.

They would find work, sure. But I don't think they would improve to the point where they are now.

How many Americans are on MLS rosters? How many Americans are in MLS starting lineups? What about other CA countries?

I'm asking, because I honestly don't know. I didn't watch as much MLS last season.

ETA: yes, I know I'm a terrible fan. I like MLS, I'm just don't have infinite time at my disposal to watch soccer like I did in college.

It's just one of those things we have to accept right now. Our player pool will continue to grow because of the MLS, and as it continues to grow, will attract more American athletes.

I'd say that MLS rosters are composed of about 60% American players.
