I don't think Sam projects to that athletic/ fast 3-4 OLB that some ppl thought he would. couple that with him always being on the smaller side for a traditional 4-3 DE (and him not being overly athletic for that either), and that's probably where the slide comes in.

if he puts up good combine numbers/ measurements, he could still stick in the late 1st. his sack/ tfl numbers were pretty much the same the last 2 yrs, and he's shown he can be a disruptive player. even if it's not on a Clowney or Jarvis Jones level.

I've seen him mentioned in a mock or 2 to the Falcons, they could use somebody to make plays off the edge.

sam is not very big to play DE and not an elite pass rusher. not quick enough to play OLB in a 3-4...he has a high motor and will be a nice rotational guy but he does not project as a pro-bowl type guy.

Hot damn Minter went up this year, I wonder what he was projected last year at this time.

fwiw, what did mingo do to justify his rankings with like less than 5 sacks on year. with the way defense played in 2nd half of season, I can't see us with 2 much less 3 first round picks.

Mingo has tons of upside with his lean frame and freakish athleticism. Sam doesn't.

Traditional 4-3 DE's don't have to be very big. Weighing around 260 is a good size. Robert Mathis around 245, Freeney only has 5-10 pounds on Montgomery. Sonic Sam looked jacked this year and I bet he's gaining weight for the combine. He just needs to run between a 4.65-4.7 to stay in the 1st. The main thing that separates him from other prospects is his high motor. He's relentless on the field.
