That is one sweet boat that is likely out of my price range.

I guess so and with my luck it doesn't surprise me that I end up using one.

well, they also make regular ole boats that are built just as well.
An old friend who passed several years ago used to let me take his 20' Laguna out anytime I wanted. Boat ran in 5" of water and did arond 40mph with a 4 stroke yamaha on a jackplate.

That's 40 mph on an over 20' hull!

Damn that laguna is one fine aluminum flats boat.

Anyway GEAUXLPOST, that G3 is a nice first boat as well. I have had alumacraft and polarkraft. My polarkraft was a 17' w/ 90 yam. You can never have enough hp unless you are getting one of the riveted aluminum that academy sells. Go with max if it all possible but if money is a determining factor don't go less than 50hp. Hell I have a 250 on my current boat and it is rated at unlimited HP and wish I would have gone with the 300 now that I look back on it. But of course at the time of purchase I was trying to save money.

Definitely go with the 40hp. A 25hp is fine on a 14' boat, but you need more arse behind it on a 16'

Way underpowered. Doubt it would get on plane with the people and weight you describe.

I'd buy a G3 in a heartbeat. Kind of wish we wouldn't have sold ours. We used to have the 1756 CC DLX...walked into the Houma boat show and walked out owning that boat for $11,000. Though that was back around 2005 or so...I'm sure they're a bit more now, and they certainly look nicer. But it was a great boat for the money.

16' boat with a 25 is way underpowered just as everyone said. If your buying new upgrade as much as possible on the motor. That's what I did and I'm thankful for it
