Friends will be there overnight and are looking for anything good. Shying away from Sammy's on the belief the crowd will be an issue. What is there to pick from? TIA

Francois's café in the same area is always pretty solid. The staff is very helpful and the owner actually cooks in the kitchen. He makes regular rounds to ask about your food and general experience.

Cafe Phoenicia is another good one, so-so
wine list, but the lamb is killer.

ETA: Oishi isn't bad for a small town sushi place. Service can be slow sometimes.

Martha's Bistro is now open. Soul Food-type place. Great fried catfish.

Don't know if they got their liquor license though if that's an issue.

Our backup to Sammys recently closed down. That was Cinco De Mayo. Its been replaced by Cabo, but havent been yet, due to they havent gotten their liquor license. Might have it by now. Cactus Cafe on the other end of town has stepped up their game big time, and is very affordable. STAY AWAY FROM CHILI's; pitiful. Small poboy shop, fried seafood, and daquiris in middle of town by tracks named Cajun Catch. My number one suggestion is a slight road trip to St. Francisville to Magnolia Cafe, enjoyable atmosphere, especially on Friday night, Right by the 3 way light in middle of down town. They have a live band and small dance floor for both young kids and adults to jitterbug out on.

Asian Pearl is great, spicy trio is the best. Cabo isn't what CDM once was - I'm hoping they work out the kinks, but the salsa doesn't have that cilantro-heavy flavor anymore. Cafe Phoenicia is pretty good - get the Grecian egg rolls.

Please don't go to Francois Cafe - food was good at least 2 years ago, but the owner, cook though he may, is a class I jerk.
