Hopedale 1/11/13 trip

My brother and I went back to Hopedale today. Tempurature was good, low 70s, fairly sunny, south winds, but the winds were stronger than expected (forecasted) as usual.
The first three ponds were lacking several elements necessary for catching redfish.
1) sufficient water...
2) abundance of bait...
3) REDFISH.
But the 4th pond DID have some reds. I had a brief (very brief) encounter with one, but he spit the hook shortly after biting. About that time, with the wind blowing us along, the boat drifted on top of a small school of nice eating sized reds. The school scattered and blasted out of the area in a quick hurry. Oh well, at least we knew the water wasn't poisoned.
Having wasted most of the day chasing reds in muddy and low water, we finally made a move late in the day to try and salvage the trip. We went closer to the launch and got in a short, but deep bayou that winds back to a large lagoon. We found some hungry fish, and stayed with them for about 45 minutes. All speckled trout, most too small to keep, but fun to catch. We wound up with 18 fish, which by my calculations equals 36 filets.
Making chicken salad out of chicken shite, and averting cabin fever again.

Do you find the reds are closer to the launch this time of year (Bayou Bernard) or more out in the biloxi marsh (Stump, Pete's, Muscle)?

I never fish the Stump Lagoon side of the MRGO. Or if I do, it's during the summer, and I access it from Rigolets Marina.
We just sold our bayboat and picked up this microskiff. We have always fished the Delacroix side of Hopedale. During summer, sometimes we'll head out to Black Bay, but mostly fish in Lake Coquille, Callabasse, etc. During fall and winter, most of our fishing is in the marsh north of Coquille, and sometimes we go towards Reggio/Delacroix.
