Looking to make a Sazerac, what is decent rye whiskey for $30 or less?

Templeton's Phrobition Rye is about $40 in the Chicago area. I am sure it would be less in other areas.....

It is an excellent Rye ...

To spin off of this thread, I've been looking to shore up the liqueur section of my bar (Benedictine, Herbsaint, etc). Who has the best prices? Calvin's isn't exactly on the cheap end

The only two I know of that are readily available and reasonably priced are Jim Beam and Old Overholt.

Jim Beam and Overholt are the standards and are more than adequate for anything you would use rye whiskey for.

Jim Beam Rye is not very pallatable...

Templeton's is good enough to sip on the rocks...

Sazerac rye is good enough for be and preferred over overholt. Knob creek recently started making a rye as well.

What Coater said. This is used by some of the top restaurants in New Orleans. Tasty, relatively easy to find, and reasonably priced.

Sazerac is good. Bulleit makes a nice rye that is affordable.

I'm a also big fan of Bulleit. And it can be had for $21 a bottle at Martin Wine Cellar.

File this under shameless self promotion, but I bottle a whiskey that is pretty darn tasty in a Sazerac. It's Redemption Rye, and can usually be had for under $30 a bottle. All others mentioned on this thread are also great options.
