Traditional Rat Trap Question...........

If its a real big rat then it could be a rat. I had a rat run off with one of the sticky traps on its back several times. I would try the same technique but with a varmint cage trap. I had much more success with this and actually caught several big rats in my backyard. Academy has it or a lot of local hardware stores for like $30.

Could be armadillo or possum. I have had cats dig holes in my yard too. Get a big raccoon trap and set it out

possums and coons will eat anything. I have no idea what armadillos eat, I just know they dig holes


If you live anywhere, you have possums and raccoons. In the suburbs, you can add rats and stray cats to that

I lived in my cousins townhouse in college and shortly after moving in realized it was infested with rats. fricking rats the size of a mans foot, like huge fricking rats. I set traps for days and could never catch them. Those bastards would eat the middle out of my underware (Apparently my lady juices taste good or something?) and tear up my bread, rice, etc, anything in a bag that could get easily eaten...


Anyways, my dad told me to set a crawfish trap with a penut butter sandwich inside. The next day there were some nasty arse fricking rats bouncing around in that thing. I called my cousin over to see and he freaked out.. He thought I was overreacting and being a drama queen since we were unable to catch them with traps...

Just feed them in the backyard and hunt them at night. I'd screw an ear of corn in a tree with 2 3.5" drywall screws. Angle your porch light so the bait is right on the edge of the lighted area. Sit on the porch with a pellet gun and a case of beer.

Also, might have to drill a pilot hole in that corn if it's really dry to keep the ear from splitting when you screw it in.

If you are dead-set on trapping them we used to make traps out of metal coffee cans to catch squirrels. I can't remember exactly how they operated, but they caught a shitpile of squirrels. You can probably google plans for one, or it might be a St. Helena Parish secret design. Not sure.

Why did we catch squirrels? To train squirrel dogs of course. We'd carefully put a little noose around the squirrel's neck then tie it on a 36" piece of string to a puppy's collar. Once you let them loose you'll find out real fast whether or not that dog's gonna be any good.

Also, try putting your trap in a corner where the only way the rat can get to the bait is by crawling over the trap.
