Highly doubt he would manufacture this story and all those quotes.

Reporters these days are clueless. The criticisms are pretty damn useless when you don't have a name, or at least multiple anonymous sources received from multiple independent journalists that corroborate the story.

He's reporting one guy's opinion not facts, you don't need corroboration for that.

That is baseless.

If the sentiment is that widespread, there should be no problem at all with other journalists corroborating the story through their own sources. Hell, if they understand the consumers of their product, this would be a no brainer to do.

To my knowledge, that hasn't happened.

A reporter could probably have run a similar "hit" piece with an anonymous player from any of the other teams that missed the playoffs (hell, probably even get a few from playoff teams). No surprise that a player doesn't like Spags, just surprised that someone decided to go public. The Saints have been pretty good about keeping things inside the clubhouse.

I agree but at the same time i can understand skepticism followong the year long witch hunt. you can get anyone to say anything. How do we know a practice squad guy didnt say tgis. there is no accountability. Moreover, what is he reporting? If multiple players came forward with complaints, you have a story. One guy on the worst defense in NFL history is unhappy with leadership? Expected. But I guess we need 3 stories about it. frick LH.

No. He's reporting that one guy is stating widespread dissatisfaction with Spagnuolo within the locker room. If true, other reporters should easily be able to get off the record commentary indicating the veracity of the report. None of that has happened to my knowledge.

It would be very easy for a reporter to manufacture this kind of story.

Exactly. I'm sure you can find one player from every team who doesn't care for a coach on their team. I think it's being overblown, and pretty stupid for Holder to run that story. It's just something to create controversy, for a team that needs to more than it has already had this year.

To me, it just shows Holder's incompetence. Assuming he didn't just make up the story, then he should have worked diligently to verify the story through multiple sources. Unless I missed it, I haven't seen him proclaim that he had more than one source.

So, Holder has what could seriously be the biggest story of the offseason...certainly the biggest story for the next few weeks...and he took an opinion, ran with it, and hasn't done anything since with the story.

So, us consumers of the information have to figure out whether we trust the journalist with no named source, and no secondary unnamed source. Then, assuming we trust the journalist, then we need to figure out if we trust the source himself (who is anonymous).

This is just another example of the lack of quality reporting out there. And, it is not outside of the realm of possibility that the story was made up completely.

From Nola.com's standpoint, sure. From the readers' perspective...Not really.

We are mostly talking about the issues surrounding the accusation, rather than the accusations itself. If it were "proven" the discussion would move toward Spagnuolo instead.

Everyone wants to know whether it is true. Yet, he took was is presumably great information and has reported on it as if it is an anonymous rumor. So, most people just don't know what to believe the truth is.
