Wow, you couldn't be more wrong. Identifying talent is easy, even us amateurs can spot talent. Why do you think recruits have offers from so many schools? What separates the men from the boys is the ability to attract talent. And having an institutional commitment to success is a critical component to attracting talent. Donna Shalala doesn't give two shits for Miami's athletic programs, and the recruits know it. Some recruits will buy the poor us vs. rich them circumstances of Miami's football program, but more of them will want to go where they are appreciated and pampered.
What is Al Golden's record at Miami against teams that have won 8 games in a season? He went 1-4 in 2011 with the win coming against Georgia Tech, and he is 1-4 in 2012 with the win coming against Virginia Tech (who got their 8th win against Rutgers in a bowl game), and North Carolina State has a chance to win an 8th game in the Music City Bowl against Vanderbilt. 2 wins in 10 chances against better than average football teams doesn't look like an ascending program.

show me one statement where Donna states she does not care for football? Just one. She was there when we were winning buddy.

she got there in 2001 when the team was loaded. What has she done to help the program? I've heard the facilities are substandard, we don't know the coaches salaries because its a private school.

But just to play your game shunnn.....have you ever been to USCe's campus in the middle of Boys n Hood location?
Did that location stop them from dominating when they had a competent coach?

Still love this...especially the "I'm going to give up my dream and attend the University of Miami"...kinda says it all, eh?
Sorry Sniffy...actually, no, I'm not...I actually feel for Artie more than anything...just look at how upset he was putting on that Miami hat...

In all honesty, that's not really relevant. What are the FB facilities like? That's the bigger issue. From an casual observer it doesn't look like Shalala and the admins are making FB a priority, but I really don't know. I liked Golden as a hire, but so far he looks under whelming.

My point was the campus and fb facilities suck....coral gables is bad arse but the campus area (facility included) are trash. This was 5 years ago though, so i cant speak for what theyve done lately

Let's see Miami started winning under Schnellenberger, and continued winning under Johnson and Erickson. Then came NCAA sanctions and Erickson left for the NFL. Miami hired Davis to clean things up, and he got them back on track. What did all of them have in common? They all had head coaching experience. When Davis left Miami hired Coker who had no experience as a head coach, and it showed after year one. When it became obvious Coker could not sustain the program he was fired. Did Shalala look for an experienced head coach to replace Coker? No, she took a shot with Shannon, and he was no better than Coker. In fact, he left the program in worse shape than when he took over. I think Shalala's actions speak louder than her words. She went shopping in the bargain basement for the leader of your signature athletic program, and she was satisfied with bargain basement results.

Good post my boy. Ken Sniffy Jr. agrees with everything you said here. Hiring bad and unqualified coaches will kill you everytime.
Sniffy's only opposition to your statement is, if Donna S did not care why not keep Blandy Shannon the Moor forever?
Kids were graduating, no off the field incidents were reported and the face of the program had switched.
Why hire Golden and extended him for over 2 million bucks a year when you can keep Blandy Shannon for a whopper and cheese fries (no beverage) a year?
