I said some time ago the Saints should go back to Milsaps next year and go boot camp style.

I 100% agree with this. Make 'em run till their legs fall off and then call them back for more full-contact drills. Channel Vince Lombardi's holding up a football at the beginning of camp and saying, "This is a football."

$8,000,000/ yr. wow

in addition to his obvious value to the team, i wonder if the lost year's worth of salary played a factor in the large number.

either way, good for him and good for the saints. the benson of my childhood/adolescence/twenties would have never done this. i am glad to see the culture of winning with the saints continue.

Doesn't bother me one bit, good for Sean milking more money out of Benson. He is now the highest paid NFL coach by half a million

Sean Payton is close to what Goodell was making before his contract extension in Feb 2012 - Goodell received $9.89 million in base salary according to federal tax returns filed by the NFL last year. Though we won't know the actual number of Goodell's new base salary until the next time the NFL files its tax returns (which could be as early as Wednesday), it stands to reason that Goodell will see a significant bump in his base, given that he received the extension just a few weeks ago. NFL Commissioner > NFL Head Coach?

Like CEO > Manager

So not concerned what Roger makes (although I think all the commissioners are over paid including MLB, NBA, Hockey) but they have more responsibilities

I posted that for comparison sakes - not a comment on commissioner vs head coach - in all instances you would assume head of an business/league would make more than a head coach/manager. Interesting that before the extension for Goodell, it would have been close.

It was a great thing for Sean that Roger did void the deal. Saints went on a losing streak and his agent was able to pry more money from Benson. If he doesn't come back next year and win though Saints fans will turn on him like some have Brees this year after he got paid

I agree - created a great leverage position for Payton - unintended consequences but it is a busines after all.
