The NFL has some really cockamamie rules. It's this unless it's that and when, or it's that unless it's this and then. The flag replay system is an abomination. The pass interference rules are a colossal joke.

Why not just simplify the rules and not allow the ball to be advanced on a fumble, period, except by the ball carrier who fumbled away the ball.

Walt Coleman explains it for you

quote:

On recovering a forward fumble:

“Well in the overtime, you play fourth-quarter rules, so the fumble rule doesn’t start until you get to the two-minute warning – as far as the forward-fumble rule where you would bring it back to the spot of the fumble.”

Everyone thinks it's pretty clear.

I think you're the only one being obtuse about it.

OT starts a new period of play, two minute warning rules no longer apply.

So the "after the 2 minute warning" statement applies to overtime the same as it does to a half? Because the rule specifically says "after the 2 minute warning in ether half".
I'm not arguing here, just trying to get some clarification with something to back it up

Yes. The 3rd quarter and first 13 minutes of the 4th quarter are after the last 2 minutes of the first half, just like the first 13 minutes of overtime are after the last 2 minutes of the 2nd half. The refs spotted the ball correctly.

XLSUx, stop being a total arse. It is not all that obvious. I thought the ball would go back to the spot of the fumble. And it still seems like the refs messed that up.

I don't think he's being a "total arse". I think he's simply pointing out that the ruling has been clearly explained multiple times in the thread and he seems to still not understand.

he's not being an arse. I thought it would go back to the spot of the fumble as well until I read this thread and it was explained why it wasn't but the OP can't seem to grasp the concept of the rule and continued to question it. The refs made the right call

I didn't see how it couldn't be Saints' ball.

Knew we'd get the ball. Didn't know where it'd be spotted though.

Dumb arse TigerBait, what I have seen and read are 10x interpertations of the rule by laymen. But there has not been one definitive explanation of the rule by anyone who knows what the shite they are talking about.

So Dumb AssTigerBait (your new name btw)until you have instructive information, please shut your pie-hole. TIA

So are you waiting for the head of NFL officials to post in this thread? How could use possibly still be confused?

OT period = 4th Quarter

The fumble can be advanced unless you're in the last two minutes of the second or fourth quarter.

Therefore, with OT = 4th quarter, the fumble can be advanced unless you're in the last two minutes of the OT period.

Ok, I just googled NFL rules and as another poster just said the OT is played just like another 4th quarter. There will be another 2 minute warning and at that time the fumble forward rule will come into effect.

DumbassTigerBait, you are no longer DumbAss in my address book. But you are still a bit of a jerk. The ruling was in fact questionable and needed clarification. That is all.

says the one who called someone an arse earlier in the thread. What you just posted was already explained in the thread and clarified. Take your tampon out next time

there was already a link posted giving a precise breakdown of every part of the play. I'm not sure what else you needed for clarification, and it was no longer questionable at the time of my post to you

This type of post is what makes you an arse. That needs no clarification.
