Must have been an awesome show.

Just call me "late to the party." That was the best $3.50 I ever spent!!

Apparently, I got the last 3 tickets to the show. I'd just flown in to BR from Canton,OH after visiting my dad and heard the promo on the radio on the way home from Ryan Field. Hauled arse to the rekkid store on College Dr and bought 'em out. My ears are still ringing.

I'll post some stuff here in a bit.

Any stories from the show itself?

I was too young to attend but remember seeing the show covered on local TV news (that's how big a deal it was). I've never forgotten a station (WAFB?) interviewing some shitkicker with a cowboy hat and mustache, asking him why he was at a punk rock concert. "Cuz they rock" he replied, "They ROCK LAHK HAIL".

Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown

Legendary blues guitarist Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown visits Loyola University, New Orleans to play a concert showcasing his unique blend of blues, country and Louisiana funk and Cajun, as part of a master class in playing music. He also takes some time to explain his approach to writing and playing music to the student audience.

I've seen Gatemouth about 20-30 times from small bars in Mandeville to large music festivals and all places in between. Probably Louisiana's most gifted musician. He could cover blues, country, cajun, big band, boogie, jazz, rock, texas swing, and everything thing else.

Born in Louisiana but raised on the Texas side, he ended up living the later years in Slidell. Katrina forced him to move and destroyed everything he owned. He passed away shortly after in Orange, TX where he relocated and grew up on the Texas side.

This concert doesnt' have all of Gate's Express backing him but it does feature Louisiana Le Roux's David Peters on drums and Joe Krown on keys. I wish this concert had big Eric Demmer on sax b/c he could play no one else. I'll try to find something with him.

I was there before the doors opened. I was hanging out in the line next to two NYC punks who were absolutely pissed they had to fly all the way to BR to catch the show. I found it humerous that "punks" could afford to fly anywhere. The made sure to let me know how shitty BR was.

The band hit the stage and it was louder n shite. Sid had "Gimme a fix" scrawled across his chest in marks-a-lot. He was a real shitty player. Steve Jones absolutely carried the band. We spat at Johnny Rotten a lot. He was kind enough to spit back and denegrate us as much as possible.

I need to listen back to the show to see if it reconnects some of my synapses from that night. I was so happy to see it resurface on YT awhile back, but I just never think about downloading it. All-in-all, everyone had a great time!

Whoever it is that plays bass on the Bollocks album is actually not bad.

Steve Jones played bass on most of Bollocks. Glen Matlock played bass on Anarchy In The UK while Sid played on Bodies.

Steve Jones isn't too bad for someone who was self taught.

Here's a pretty good podcast with him.

Merry Christmas Kafka and thanks for this thread. I've enjoyed every bit of it, esp the reminiscing of the epic shows at the old Kingfish that I saw so many of..........

A non-Phish extra:

The Who - "Pictures of Lily" studio session (1967)

Very rare footage of the band rehearsing the harmony vocals for their classic single "Pictures Of Lily". Note the rather primitive recording technology of the day required the vocals be done simultaneously, while today they would probably be overdubbed one at a time.

Keith Moon recording "Pictures Of Lily"

Well, I plagiarized it because it bears repeating

(I stole that from New Yorker cartoonist Aaron Bacall)

When did you post it? I missed it.

At least it means somebody replied to this thread

Feels like a month ago, so I´ll say two, three weeks tops.

I think people were talking about great Who songs, and I prefaced that Pictures of Lily was a great song, not obscure (everybody tries to say their double live Budokan licensed New Zealand version is the absolute best version of whatever song their schlepping), but here was an interesting little tidbit about the song´s ´mocking up´.

I think I actually posted in that thread, but I don't recall the POL link at all

At least it created a discussion in the non-Phish thread
