Why would Goodell ever need to testify in the process of that suit? And if he did, why would he say anything different than he has been saying?

A 20-something attorney.

This site is awesome.

Vilma's attorney, Peter Ginsburg, said that Vilma, while thrilled over the end of the suspensions, still wants to have his name cleared and will continue in the defamation suit.

The NFL surely wants to avoid court, but the only way to make Vilma happy is to admit it was all a sham, something they also want to avoid. I'm guessing the NFL paper shredders are pretty busy right now.

In addition to all of that, Vilma is a public figure, so he would have to prove that not only did Goodell lie intentionally but he did it with the specific malicious intent to ruin Vilma's character. I dont see that happening.

It wouldn't necessarily have to be with the intent to to ruin Vilma's character. It could be with the intent to protect the NFL in the future from damages in another suit by injured players. He has to know he was lying and have any malicious intent, his motive could be other than the primary intent to ruin character of the plaintiff.

It would be interesting if the case stayed in NO and what kind of jury they could select that was neutral between Goodell and any Saint player.
