It wouldn't necessarily have to be with the intent to to ruin Vilma's character. It could be with the intent to protect the NFL in the future from damages in another suit by injured players. He has to know he was lying and have any malicious intent, his motive could be other than the primary intent to ruin character of the plaintiff.
It would be interesting if the case stayed in NO and what kind of jury they could select that was neutral between Goodell and any Saint player.
