Yea, but the number of roster spots stays the same, so instead of having special teams specialists, teams can add extra position players, so that's a wash, IMO.
How would this work at the beginning of each half?

The options are either to go for it and try to retain possession or punt. If you go for it and fall short, of course, the opposing team would take over with good field position.

This is the exact opposite of what the NFL and Goodell want. This is all about player safety.
